Watching birds help each other

We had a sick sparrow on our porch over the weekend. Didn't look injured but wasn't flying away when we would approach it. We weren't sure how to help it aside from putting out a dish with some water. But the other sparrows kept swooping down to bring it food and do a lot of chirping (keeping its spirits up? alerting other sparrows?). It was like they had a whole care network set up and ready to go. After a few days the sick sparrow was gone! We suspect that means that it got better and was finally able to fly away, thanks to its friends.
